I believe this photo is in 1977, I am probably on the scaffold below the main working deck. We were a team of concrete finishers from North Wales, a father and three sons, the rig was towed out on 08/09/1978, we had traveled the 526 mls up to find out we had been paid off, and the notices were in the post, but the firm invited us to stay for the next fortnight. We went up Applecross mountain and watched the tow from there.
We were later asked back to help concrete ballast the Maureen platform. the first day back we were setting up for the job when a storm blew up and the gantry sank, we eventually got off the rig at 1.15 am the management kindly gave us an extra lie in, they told us we could start 30 mins later, all heart.
Between the three gangs we poured 51, 000 tons in 49 days. One of my fondest memories is the last trip on the boat after your tour, the captain of the Highland Seabird would play Rod Stewart's 'We are sailing' and we would toss our safety helmets in the loch. There must have been a 100, 000 of them issued.
Does anybody remember the t shirts with the motiff THE BIGGEST ERECTION IN SCOTLAND, KISHORN 1978? Very happy days.
John I remember the 'T shirts'. I had one but not sure where it is now. Remember the good times on and off (Inverness etc etc) the base camp. Was there early on in in my career (Structural Engineer). From the Dry Dock onwards. Been and worked for Esso in the Bass Strait off Victoria, Australia. Only baby platforms down there. Still here in Australia, remember winter time up there at Kishorn.
